A dose of warmth and comfort in the middle of winter

The Québec Winter Carnival, now in its 68th year, is here to draw the Capitale-Nationale out of hibernation and offer a welcome distraction. Like many Quebecers, I regard the event as a valuable tradition that encourages families to get out and celebrate.

I would like to thank the organizing committee of this major celebration, which displays impressive ingenuity and passion from year to year. Despite the success of the virtual formula, it is a pleasure to gradually return to a more traditional version of the event and to at last see participants strolling in the streets to savour its effervescence.

As usual, a host of performances, outdoor activities, artistic demonstrations, and all manner of surprises are on the program. I hope that you will make the most of the 10 days of festivities.

Enjoy the Québec Winter Carnival!

François Legault
Premier of Québec

Every year, the Québec Winter Carnival provides the kind of warmth that chases away the February cold with its programming filled with joy, happiness and – it must be admitted – a touch of craziness.

Québec City is fortunate to hold this winter festival that is unique in the world, and through which it has earned its laurels as a preeminent winter city. This is a matter of pride for us.

A rallying event for the local population and a must-see attraction for tourists from around the world, the Carnival has been celebrating the joys of winter for nearly 70 years. It forms part of our collective history and contributes to our identity.

This 68th edition promises to be an exciting one! Bonhomme Carnaval is all geared up to lead the party and to set carnival-goers in motion all around the city. This is a unique opportunity to stroll around our neighbourhoods and see how the Carnival frenzy catches on, while encouraging our local businesses.

I encourage you to participate in large numbers. Experience the ambient excitement to the fullest and rediscover Québec City, resplendent in the beauty of its winter whiteness.

Returning home with a frosty nose-tip and an ear-to-ear smile, after having spent hours of fun with family or friends: this is one of the joys of living.

Enjoy the Carnival!

Bruno Marchand
Mayor of Québec City
